Overview

Dr. Munir Ghesani, MD, FACNM, FACR, FSNMMI, is a nuclear medicine physician and clinical leader with more than 25 years of academic practice experience. At United Theranostics, he serves as Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director for the Princeton, New Jersey facility.

His work spans nuclear medicine, molecular imaging, oncologic imaging, targeted radionuclide therapies, and theranostics, with an emphasis on expanding access to advanced radiopharmaceutical care in a patient-centered outpatient setting.

Education & Training

Dr. Ghesani earned his medical degree from Gujarat University and NHL Medical College in Ahmedabad, India. He completed diagnostic radiology residency training at KM School of Postgraduate Medicine and Research, followed by a diagnostic ultrasound fellowship at LG Hospital and KM School of Postgraduate Medicine and Research.

After moving to the United States, he completed internal medicine training at Jersey City Medical Center, followed by nuclear medicine residency and fellowship training at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York.

Clinical Focus

Dr. Ghesani’s clinical work focuses on nuclear medicine, molecular imaging, oncologic imaging, theranostics, and targeted radionuclide therapies. His experience includes both diagnostic and therapeutic applications of radiopharmaceuticals in cancer care.

At United Theranostics, he helps oversee the integration of theranostic approaches designed to expand access to advanced cancer treatments in an outpatient environment.

Leadership & Appointments

Dr. Ghesani previously served as System Chief of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging at the Mount Sinai Health System and as Associate Clinical Professor of Radiology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. In those roles, he helped advance nuclear medicine services, interdisciplinary collaboration, and education for radiology trainees.

At United Theranostics, he serves as Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director for Princeton, helping guide clinical operations, research initiatives, and the delivery of advanced theranostic care.

Research & Publications

Dr. Ghesani has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications and has delivered more than 150 invited presentations at regional, national, and international meetings. His scholarship includes work in oncologic imaging, nuclear medicine education, and theranostics.

He is also Editor-in-Chief of Nuclear Medicine: A Case-Based Approach, a three-part educational series covering general nuclear medicine, nuclear cardiology, and PET/CT imaging.

Dr. Ghesani has held leadership roles across major nuclear medicine organizations. He served as President of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, and has also served in leadership with the American Board of Nuclear Medicine and the American College of Nuclear Medicine.

He has been named a Fellow of the American College of Nuclear Medicine, the American College of Radiology, and the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging.

Dr. Ghesani’s recognition includes the ACNM Personal Best Mentor of the Year award, Castle Connolly Top Doctors recognition in nuclear medicine, and fellowship honors from ACNM, ACR, and SNMMI.
