Dr. Eliot Siegel, MD, FACR, FSIM, DABR, is a radiologist and medical informatics pioneer whose career has centered on digital imaging, artificial intelligence, and the integration of technology into clinical care. As a founding physician at United Theranostics, he brings decades of experience in imaging innovation to the organization’s work in precision oncology and radiopharmaceutical therapy.

His background includes leadership in academic radiology, nuclear medicine, research informatics, PACS, and national imaging informatics initiatives.

Education & Training

Dr. Siegel earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. His training and early work in diagnostic radiology helped shape a career focused on how imaging technology can improve clinical care.

He developed particular expertise in Picture Archiving and Communication Systems, or PACS, helping define one of the most important shifts in modern radiology practice.

Dr. Siegel’s clinical and translational focus includes diagnostic radiology, nuclear medicine, medical informatics, artificial intelligence, PACS, cloud-based imaging workflows, and the use of imaging data to support more precise cancer care.

Leadership & Appointments

Dr. Siegel has served as Professor and Vice Chair of Research Informatics in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He has also served as Chief of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine for the VA Maryland Health Care System.

His leadership also includes work with national imaging informatics initiatives, including the National Cancer Institute’s caBIG In Vivo Imaging Workspace and the National Cancer Image Archive.

Research & Publications

Dr. Siegel has authored hundreds of articles and book chapters across radiology, PACS, digital imaging, artificial intelligence, and medical informatics. His research often examines how emerging technologies can be integrated into clinical imaging while preserving the physician’s role in patient care.

He helped lead the VA Maryland Healthcare System to become the first filmless radiology department in the United States, a milestone in the transition from film-based imaging to digital radiology workflows.
